Shaun Wake-Mazey is originally from Albany WA, and his art career evolved in Perth after completing a Bachelor of Fine Arts at Curtin University. A well known and respected artist, his work has taken him away for many years to Sydney and Melbourne, and he has also spent a few years in Italy living mostly in Florence. He has exhibited and has his works in collections around the world.
Wake-Mazey returned to Australia in 1999 and relocated to Brisbane where he lived and worked for a couple of years before moving to Kin Kin in the Noosa hinterland.  He stayed on his 10-acre property for 15 years living in a semi-reclusive manner, but in 2015 undertook a residency back in Albany at the Vancouver Arts Centre.
“Albany was my initial inspiration for becoming an artist and it is where it will continue until it is finished.”  The late John Stringer wrote of Wake-Mazey in a book called Artist in Residence that ; "Wake-Mazey's work is invariably dramatic, not merely as a result of scale but especially because of its passionate use of violent colour and harsh tonal contrasts. His works have a haunting quality due both to the nocturnal mood of their rich dark sonorous colours."
The NEW WORKS collection (Dec 11-30 2020) combines both abstract and figurative elements. “Many of my works are large-scale oils on plywood as well as oils on paper. I prefer to paint in a free expressionistic style that involves automatist techniques of flooding and pouring of oil paint. Resorting to brushes only when I add figurative elements,” he says.
