john manson
John spent many years painting and exhibiting in Fremantle WA where he received help and inspiration from established artists such as Evelyn Kotai, George Haynes, Peter Walker and Jeremy Kirwan-Ward.
He has begun to paint with renewed passion and diligence since moving to Albany, which has been further encouraged by his recent success in the highly regarded Albany Art Award. John’s general approach to making paintings is to find subject matter that provides the basic elements that can be arranged and interpreted to make a pleasing design. The original material is often quite banal and not intrinsically beautiful, and so the challenge is to apply enough creativity to produce a pleasing and interesting artwork - in this sense the design is key.
John has been represented by a number of galleries over the last years, including New Collectables, McKenzie Gallery, and Gadfly Gallery. He has won a number of awards and held several successful solo shows in Perth - the last being at Gadfly Gallery in 2008. His work is held in a number of collections including that of St. Hilda’s School, East Fremantle Town Council, Wagin Shire, and Katanning Shire.
