"I began painting with oil paints about 12 years ago and quickly became enchanted with them. I've painted under the tutelage of quite a few very talented and experienced painters; Peter Saxon, Dang Yammannee, Drewfus Gates, Leanne Pearson and Angela Stewart have all been generous and inspiring teachers.
I've worked out that I like to paint from life whenever possible, and that the play of light and shadow are very interesting to me. I am influenced by many painters but among my greatest heroes are Margaret Olley, Georgio Morandi and Wayne Thiebaud.
I have been painting a lot of still life in the last few years. For me this genre invites observations at many levels for both the artist and the viewer. I really like that the still life painter is connected to a long respected tradition of painting ones immediate domestic world.
Our collective domestic spaces have been brought into sharper focus during these strange times. We have spent so much more time in our homes, and I am very interested in that global shared experience and I think about that a lot when I am painting."
